In the furthest southeast corner of Michigan is Temperance, home of A Taste of Country, a dry-food shop owned and operated by Andrea Glen and her husband.

Imagine country-décor in a shop that combines script signage, handmade candles by a local artisan, at least a dozen choices of trail mix combinations, honey coated pretzels, seasoned bagel chips, a fascinating collection of gelatin desert and pudding mixes, biscuit mix, corn meal, rice, noodles, potato chips and flakes, baking chips, colored sugars and sprinkles, and more.

The Glens buy in bulk from Amish farms in nearby Ohio and Pennsylvania, as well as from some national brand providers. They re-package the food into use-at-home quantities, some in bags and some in airtight containers.

They have customers who come in frequently, usually to select from the entire wall of candies and delectables. Other customers come in every month to restock their home pantry. The Glens know their customers, and the people who shop there want to come back.

Temperance is about 9 miles east from Exit 5 off US-23. Plan to visit, shop, and make new friends.
