Boskydel Vineyards is located at 7501 E Otto Road in Lake Leelanau. Their great tasting and modestly priced estate-bottled wines are from French-American hybrid grapes which are bred to thrive in spite of our frigid Michigan winters. This vineyard has been in business since 1976.
This small winery features Bernie Rinke, the resident "curmudgeon," who crafts and enjoys the wine. Expect to hear some good stories while you sip the fruits of his labors.
From a 1985 article in The New York Times:
It's a family business, run with the help of his five sons. The Boskydel name came from a story, ''The Elves of Bosky Dingle'' his children liked -and Mr. Rink's own pleasure in discovering that the word bosky also means ''befuddled with drink, inebriated.''

Plan to spend some time in the tasting room, viewing and reading the whimsy and humor on the art-lined walls. During the holiday season, you can buy your Douglas Fir Christmas tree. You can buy estate grown Chinese chestnuts that are great for roasting. They also sell macadamias, hazelnuts, almonds, peanuts, and cashews.
During the cooler months, warm your fingers and toes by the icosahedron (20-sided) stove. Enjoy the rustic atmosphere and the sensibly priced by the case or by the bottle prices.
You can phone them at 231 256-7272.
You can email them at userg@jimrink.com.
