Brys Estate Vineyard & Winery is located at 3309 Blue Water Road on the Old Mission Peninsula north of Traverse City. It is owned and operated by Walt and Eileen Brys. They grow an impressive variety of grapes: Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, and Gewurztraminer. They bought the property in 1999 and began planting in 2001. Their award-winning wines are a testament to their talent and dedication.

2007 “Dry Ice” Ice Wine

The category ice wine indicates an alcohol content between 8-9.5% and a residual sugar content between 10-20%. The "dry ice" category has an alcohol content of 13.8% and residual sugar content of 6.7%.

Brys Estate released their first ice wine "Dry Ice" in the Fall of 2006. In August of 2008 in the Michigan Wine & Spirits Competition, Brys Estate "Dry Ice" was awarded a Gold medal as well as "Best of Class" award in the dessert wine category.

The vintner is Coenraad Stassen who came to the United States from South Africa. His wines have garnered 54 medals in 2008 in both national and International competitions. According to Stassen:

I like to make wines that are elegant and well-balanced, that can be enjoyed with foods or all by themselves.

To get to Brys Estate, take M-37 north from Traverse City. Go about 10 miles. Turn right at the St. Joseph Catholic Church on to Blue Water Road. The winery is less than a quarter mile on the right hand side. The tasting room is open on a regular basis June through October, Monday through Saturday from 11 am until 6 pm. Call ahead to make certain of the hours November through May.
