On December 23, 1873, Adrian College awarded the country's first Bachelor of Music degree to Nattie Pease Lowrie who majored in vocal and instrumental music. Today, Adrian College offers several Bachelors degrees in Music, as well as in many other majors.

Adrian College was founded in 1859. It is a private, co-educational college of liberal arts and sciences related to The United Methodist Church. It is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
