A few mementos from the Yankees’ 27th World Series win are on their way upstate to Cooperstown to be frozen in time.

Among the items are MVP Hideki Matsui’s bat that did so much damage in Game 6 and Johnny Damon’s spikes that crossed home plate a team high six times in the World Series.

It’s a shame that we can’t also send the frightened look on the Phillies’ face every time Mariano Rivera went into his windup or the wide-eyed child-like overwhelming joy that hit the stoic Joe Girardi when Mark Teixeira stepped on first for the final out.

Those are the snapshots I’ll remember when I see Matsui’s bat and Damon’s spikes just like I can feel the cement of Yankee Stadium shaking under my feet when I see Bernie Williams’ bat and Mariano Rivera’s shoes from the 1996 World Series.

I guess it’s hard to bronze a “who’s your daddy?” chant.
