Pavano will start Saturday

August 21, 5:28 PM
by Pete Sabatini, New York Yankees Examiner

Carl Pavano during a rare appearanceIt is official – Carl Pavano will make his third Yankees appearance since June 27, 2005 this Saturday at Camden Yards in Baltimore.  He will match up against Orioles ace Jeremy Guthrie (10-9, 3.15) who has been plagued by lack of run support despite a strong season for a struggling team.

Since signing for $40 million before the 2005 season, Pavano has made only 19 appearances due to a variety of oft mysterious injuries.  Pavano’s most recent injury resulted in Tommy John Surgery just over one year ago.

Due to his propensity to the DL, the righty’s dedication to the team has been called into question by Yankee fans, the media, and some of his teammates including Mike Mussina.  However, with a patchwork starting staff, the Yankees will take a quality start from wherever they can get it.
