by Winslow Townson, APThe Yankees have agreed to terms with righty backup catcher Kevin Cash for a minor league deal, the New York Post is reporting here.

Cash served as Red Sox backup and Wakefield stopper for part of 2007 and most of 2008.

The 31-year-old hit a career high .225 in only 142 at bats in 2008 which boosted his career .184 but adds veteran depth behind Jorge Posada and Jose Molina.

Cash has only played in 187 games over parts of six major league seasons.

Posada is rehabilitating after offseason shoulder surgery and has not yet progressed to a full workout program, though is on schedule.

If Posada is not at full strength by opening day, first base is no longer an option for the switch hitter with the signing of Gold Glover Mark Teixeira.

Projected designated hitter Hideki Matsui is rehabbing from his own knee surgery offering potential for shared DH duties if Posada is not game ready.
