The Kentucky State Poetry Conference was held this year at the Pine Mountain Resort Park in Kentucky. The guest speaker was author, Frank X. Walker.
Walker is a native of Danville, Ky. and holds a MFA from Spaulding University. He is currently writer-in –residence at Northern Kentucky University. He teaches writing programs across Kentucky and is co-founder of Affrilachian Poets and the author of four poetry collections.
The Kentucky State Poetry Society (KSPS) was founded in 1966 by a group of Kentuckians with a love for poetry. Among this group was Jesse Stuart, Kentucky Poet Laureate, who continued to support KSPS until his death in 1984.
In addition, KSPS is a proud member of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. It offers a venue of support for many programs, to include the acknowledgement of the accomplishments of various state members and opportunities for recognition in poetry--most importantly, perhaps, to student writers. KSPS is committed to supporting the writers of America's future and joins NFSPS in that goal.
Membership in the Society is not limited to Kentuckians! The members come from all over the US, Canada, and beyond, and have many vocations and lifestyles. Several KSPS members have published poetry in some of the nation's finest publications and have books to their credit. Other members have yet to be published -- it matters not to us. Our common bond is an appreciation for poetry. If you share this interest, you are invited to join. Through KSPS, members have the opportunity to associate with fellow writers, develop lifelong friendships, exchange ideas, and learn from each other and from workshop leaders at annual meetings on how to sharpen writing skills and appreciation for the art of poetry.
