It won’t be available in time for the holidays, but early next year, AT&T will begin selling wireless service to a new digital photo frame that offers a whole new take on interactivity.

The Vizit frame, from Concord, Mass.-based Isabella Products, is a 10.4-inch liquid crystal display touch-screen for photos introduced today. What’s interesting is the variety of ways the frame can send, receive and display photos.

Using AT&T’s wireless network, a subscriber can send pictures from a cell phone camera in one city to the Vizit frame in another and they’ll automatically come up on the display. The user of the Vizit can scroll through a carousel of all photos on the device, write captions, create slideshows, add and delete photos and perform other functions.

Photos can be sent to the frame using e-mail, MMS or Internet photo sharing sites as well as from one Vizit to another. Photos can also be managed online through the Vizitme.com Web site.

“Digital frames have been a great step forward in viewing convenience, but there has not yet been a single product that allows consumers to fully interact with their photos in a meaningful way,” said Matthew Growney, founder and CEO of Isabella Products, in a prepared statement.

I know that because I received a travel alarm clock with a slide show photo display a while back. I loaded a half dozen pictures onto it, looked at the photos a few times, then put the travel alarm in the back of some junk drawer once I realized my smartphone has an alarm clock feature.

While no specific date for release has been set, AT&T and Isabella say the Vizit will sell for US$279.99, plus the cost of a monthly or annual photo sharing plan, the price of which was not specified. The device will only be sold through VizitMe.com and other online retailers, but not in AT&T Mobility stores.
