   FL Congresswoman Kathy Castor

Tonight, Congresswoman Kathy Castor (D-FL) held a telephone town hall conference call to answer questions on the nation's healthcare reform bill.

This is Part 3 in a series of articles covering the events of that call.

More highlights from the Q&A session:

  • Responding to a question about people who are happy with their current coverage, Castor admitted she uses the coverage provided by her husband's plan through his employer instead of the plan provided for her as a federal employee. She presented this example of the options she has to find the best deal for herself, and said she wants all Americans to have those types of choices.

When a male caller asked about a provision for the healthcare of children of illegal immigrants, Castor responded:

Let's bust another myth. The bill explicitly prohibits illegal aliens from receiving any federal health care subsidies."

  • Responding to the same caller's concern about healthcare rationing, Castor explained that anyone who's had experience dealing with private insurers can tell you that those companies ration now! Castor also described her own experience dealing with an insurer after her daughter was injured and had to receive stitches. The Congresswoman fought resistance from the company that didn't want to pay for her daughter's care.

At the end of the call, Congresswoman Castor encouraged callers to leave voice mail messages to voice their concerns and ask additional questions, and said her staff would listen to all of the messages because Castor wants to know what her constituents think about this issue.
