House Health Bill Passes
House Health Bill Passes
Steve

The most recent passage of the 2000+ page Healthcare Reform Bill that the house passed last night by a very narrow margin is testament to the fact that even if not perfect, the raw materials for a historic healthcare overhaul might actually become reality.  This is both exciting and scary at the same time for us as it really is uncharted territory for this country and is the main reason why there is so much debate on every side.  Now things get more interesting as it gets debated and passes through the intestines of the Senate.  We shall all see just how "digestible" this all really is.

Americans as a whole agree something must be done for there are too many uninsured and underinsured people out there costing the taxpayers and the system far too much and along with fraud with Medicare, create huge leaks by which the currently system is hemmoraging millions of dollars daily and must be rebuilt, much like a house ready for demolition.  This is a fact that most of do not deny.

If we look back at history with huge, historic legislation on a similar scale such as Social Security and Medicare, the votes and debates were never one-sided and there was plenty of criticism leveled at these programs, which in this day and age we could never think we would be able to live without.  These programs were borne out of bad conditions: war, bad economy, job losses...much the same cycle and scale as we see today.

We need to remind ourselves that sometimes government intervention is a good thing and it is intended to help, not hurt.  USA needs to get on the bandwagon of other industrialized nations and figure out that both Health Care and Education must be shored up and be Priority 1 if we are to compete effectively in a lean and mean global economy that we clearly see each day is unforgiving.  There are plenty of countries hungering for the top spot if the US gets "knocked off" and that point is coming very close which is why these both should be on top of everyone's list.

The only thing that we all must be wary of is making the change gradual and "palatable".  Sometimes it takes people a while to acclimate to a stronger "medicine" and this is exactly what this change entails.  A stronger dose we all need to get used to because if we don't, our country will wither away in debt far greater than the debts we all carry the burden of right now and that's a fact, not fiction.
