Tales of the Cocktail 'Stir Your Soul' 2009 - courtesy of TOTC 09In a few weeks bar chefs, mixologists, and many with various interests linked within the liquor industry will descend upon New Orleans for Tales of the Cocktail 2009 (TOTC). It’s been said that TOTC is one giant cocktail party with a drink offered every few steps. While some may indeed go for the fun, frivolity and once a year party gathering as if it were Las Vegas, TOTC has much more to offer than a cocktail a minute.

My email inbox has been stuffed every day with one learning opportunity after another. Sure, Tales of the Cocktail is aptly named since this is a liquor industry event. There will indeed be cocktails with liquor flowing in tasting rooms. But this is an educational opportunity to learn the proper way the spirits are intended to be highlighted in cocktails to best bring out their particular characteristics. Brand ambassadors, liquor owners and creators will be in attendance eager to share information about their spirits. What is so often overlooked is the back story of the brands and the human element many strive to maintain by reaching out to the needs of their communities.

Big name brands and little known distilleries will all take center stage at Tales of the Cocktail by representing themselves in tasting rooms and sponsoring seminars. Many if not all are available for interviews to discuss their brands. My personal preference for chat happens to be listening over drinks and just letting conversation flow. That is when the real interesting exchange begins. It isn’t the who, what, when, where and why that answers what we all want to know. That can be found on practically any liquor site home page. Tales of the Cocktail is the conversation starter. If you would like to ‘Stir Your Soul’ and be a part of that conversation learn more about Tales of the Cocktail 2009. Tickets are still available for many seminars and events.
