The following lollipop media release has nothing to do with the liquor industry or cocktails, but it did catch my eye as a throwback to times when kids could walk into a corner convenience store with a pocket full of change and walk out with a pocket full of penny candy. Lollipops or suckers, whichever term you prefer, kids and adults still seem to have a love affair with them. So much so, I’ve even seen these little creations used to sweeten the deal as cocktail garnish lately.

Das Lolli Lollipop’s flavors of Fab-O-Pom, Caramel Me Happy, Naughty Ginger and Man Bait of course turned my thinking in the direction of cocktails rather than candy. POM Wonderful has amazing liquid creations you will love to sip rather than lick. With simple ingredients POM Wonderful cocktails are inexpensive and easy to recreate in your own kitchen or home bar.

POM Schnapps (in place of the Fab-O-Pom)
1/2 ounce POM Tangerine 100% Juice
1/2 ounce DeKuyper Original Peachtree Schnapps
1/2 ounce fresh orange juice
Orange Twist for Garnish

Shake with ice to chill. Serve in a shot glass.
Intoxicologist Note: To turn this into the ideal summer sipper rather than shot, increase the measurements to 1 ounce each and serve on the rocks in a rocks glass.

POM Mocha-Tini (in place of Caramel Me Happy)
1 ounce POM Wonderful® 100% Pomegranate Juice
1 ounce white creme de cacao
1/2 ounce coffee liqueur
1/2 ounce vanilla vodka

White, dark and milk chocolate shavings

Shake all ingredients together and strain into martini glass. Float chocolate shavings on top for garnish.

Ginger Tea Toddy (in place of Naughty Ginger)
4 ounces Pomegranate Lychee Green Tea
1-1/2 ounces Ten Cane Rum
3/4 ounce Ginger Liqueur
Cinnamon Stick Garnish

Warm the Pomegranate Lychee Green Tea. Assemble the ingredients in a mug and drop in a cinnamon stick.

Gentlemens Club (in place of Man Bait)
3 ounces Pomegranate Lychee Green Tea
1-1/2 ounces Gin
1 ounce Fresh Orange Juice
1 orange slice

Build all the ingredients in a rocks glass over ice in the order listed. Stir and garnish with orange slice.

New Das Lolli Lollipops Launch to Sweeten Recession Woes

Adventurous, all natural, uniquely flavored lollipops surprise, delight and dare with unexpected mouthwatering flavors.

Chicago, IL, April 30, 2009 --(PR.COM)-- Affordable, gourmet lollis are the new comfort food for grownups

There’s no question Americans tend to wax nostalgic during a sluggish economy, which could explain why the candy industry is one of the only sectors thriving in the current recession. That makes now the perfect time for Chicago-based Das Foods to launch a new line of adventurous, uniquely flavored and affordable lollipops called Das Lolli.

“As stock prices dip and 401(k)s shrink, consumers are turning to sweets to feel a bit better,” says Katie Das, founder of Chicago-based Das Foods, an artisanal candy company that makes delicious, indulgent non-chocolate confections using local, sustainable ingredients. “In a world of overpriced gourmet candy, the affordably indulgent Das Lolli will be a great comfort,” Das adds.

The adventurous and delicious new Das Lolli flavors include:

Fab-O-Pom – a pomegranate and orange lolli that’s good and good for you. It’s a sweet and tangy fusion of heart-healthy real pomegranate extract and fragrant orange oil with tiny pieces of orange zest.

Caramel Me Happy – a caramel and lavender lolli made with caramelized cane sugar and indulgent chewy Das Salty Caramel mixed with real lavender extract and tiny crystals of Fleur De Sel sea salt for a trendy, delicious sweet and salty treat.

Naughty Ginger – a ginger and lemon lolli that’s sweet, tangy and tantalizingly spicy all at once. Small bits of wickedly spicy candied ginger are complemented by all-natural lemon extract. And the ginger works double time; it tastes great And soothes an upset stomach.

Man Bait – a maple bacon lolli that’s a fiercely delicious combination of real smoky bacon bits and delicious maple syrup providing an all-at-once savory and sweet sensation. At only 30 calories each, Das Lolli are all natural, corn syrup-free, free of chemical preservatives and additives, and contain no artificial flavors or food coloring.

Das Lolli will be marketed to natural and mainstream grocery stores, gourmet and specialty food stores, convenience stores, club stores and department stores, and are currently available online at www.dasfoods.com and at a variety of Chicago-area gourmet food stores. Suggested retail price is $.50.
