Old Glory - photo Courtesy The Baddish GroupIndependence Day would not look the same without the colors of red, white and blue. Old Glory stands as symbol of The United States of America and freedom. The Old Glory cocktail rose in popularity around the time of the political nominations for President of the United States and again as President Obama took office. The Old Glory drink recipe is still a red, white and blue favorite with its color and innovative use of pastry chef fondant for garnish in creating white stars inside the martini glass. Fresh fruit blueberries give the splash of color needed and a thrilling taste to round out the colors of Old Glory.

Old Glory
1 part black cherry rum
1-1/2 parts POM WONDERFUL pomegranate cherry juice
1/2 part fresh sour mix
White fondant stars, skewered blueberries for garnish

Cut mini stars out of white fondant. Using water gently wet the back of each star and press into the inside of the cocktail glass. Let sit for 5 minutes. Fill mixing glass with all ingredients add ice to tin. Shake well and strain into star studded martini glass. Garnish with blueberries on a cocktail pick.

Lunazul Tequila - photo courtesy Heaven HillCross your fingers and wish for a full moon, cloudless sky and no rain. Tonight it is all about an open sky full of fireworks celebrating freedom. The sound of children giggling as they romp through yards with water balloons and water sprinklers while playing tag gives peace of mind. Teenagers play basketball, talk about their cars, getting that job to pay for cool new things at the mall and where they’re heading to college.  Adults gather around the grill, sit on the patio and chat about good times of the past and what the future holds. Mix up this easy to prepare Lunazul Tequila cocktail and remember the ones who have made freedom possible through the years. The road to freedom has not always been so trouble-free.

Full Moon Fizz
Ginger ale
Lime wheel garnish

Pour tequila over ice in a cocktail glass, fill with ginger ale. Stir gently and garnish with a lime wheel.

The Roq Candy drink recipe was made famous by Ciroc and P Diddy at the Sundance Film Festival a few years back. This cocktail becomes highly sweetened with the addition of a rock candy garnish. If one chooses to place a blue rock candy stick in rather than the usual clear to white one, this cocktail nearly glows ala the Hpnotiq Martini with its glow stick garnish. If you prefer to leave out the rock candy garnish, opt for a frilly stir stick in honor of Independence Day instead.
