Bacardi Dragon Berry Flavored Rum - photo property of The IntoxicologistTake a walk around the garden, farmers market or local produce section of your favorite grocer and the fruits of the season give rise to all sorts of delectable ideas for cocktail creations. Fresh fruits, herbs and vegetables add zest and pizzazz to summer cocktails in such a way that lure the senses, tempt the taste buds and elevate the cocktail from mediocre to superb.

In the last few years the Mojito has become a summer staple drink for any occasion. While tiny plastic packages of mint are usually readily available year round in the produce section of the grocery store, there is just something much more delightful about heading to the garden or farmer’s market and grabbing an actual handful of mint for hands on freshness. Fresh from the garden rather than shipped in a truck across country has the ring of purity summer cocktails deserve. With the addition of Dragon Berry Flavored Rum to the Bacardi family of rums now you can enjoy an additional twist on the classic Mojito favorite.

Bacardi Superior - Tasted Neat - photo property of The IntoxicologistEven with all the wonderful flavors of Bacardi there really is nothing like the original rum; Bacardi Superior. Bacardi Superior is the foundation of the Bacardi family of spirits. This particular spirit neither dominates a cocktail nor fades away when mixed properly. The vanilla and citrus undertones add the exact depth of character that make Bacardi Superior ideal for sipping neat or better yet mixing with your favorite ingredients. It is the light and clean nature of Bacardi Superior that matches up so well with fresh from the garden or farmer’s market produce resulting in the freshest of summertime cocktails.

Bacardi Rum spirits tasting with Will Ramos at Casa Bacardi in Puerto Rico - Friday, April 24, 2009 - photo property of The IntoxicologistBacardi Select is another dimension in the line of Bacardi rums. This expression is sweeter and richer than the Bacardi Superior and it contains a bit of woodsy smoke from the charcoal barrels it is aged within. This adds great depth of character to the classic Mojito, but begins a new realm of flavor when a twist of cinnamon and blackberry is added.
