Tailgating during sporting events is almost as American as apple pie and hot dogs. Tailgate parties have become as popular if not more so than gathering at local pubs to watch the big game on TV. Some have been known to gather in the parking lot of their local watering hole to tailgate pre-game before meandering inside to watch their home team play an away game. That is either dedication to team spirit or love of the tailgate party. Whichever it is, tailgating in America has become tradition and has spread to more sporting events than just football. The cool months of fall to winter do not deter the avid sports fan who tailgates for pleasure and love of the game. Often an afternoon game begins with early morning journey to claim a prized perch for tent covering, grill and place to spread food and liquid refreshment. The morning may begin with coffee, cider or hot chocolate, but tailgating is famously known for the more creative side of beverage consumption – alcohol.
The photo drink recipe slide show below contains college football teams paired with shots. Teams include: Florida Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide, Texas Longhorns, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Colorado Buffaloes. Many shots and drinks may be mixed ahead of time and placed within a chiller for easy pour while tailgating. There are many football inspired drink recipes in links below. Bring a little creativity to your tailgate party whether by shot, beer or hot brew. Please do so responsibly.
