Apologies, as the lack of internet during my backpack trip to Wales and Dublin this weekend put to rest any thoughts of a mid-trip post. And in case you were wondering, yes, the Guinness does taste better when you’re in their Dublin factory drinking it from the top floor of their Gravity bar while looking out over the entire city.
So I was forced to catch bits and pieces of the action from what highlight shows and newspapers I could get my hands on. As it’s old news, there is no real reason to dive too deeply into anything. We had a contested Manchester United penalty that aided the Reds to victory against Bolton, a shock 2-1 win by Hull City at Arsenal to show that these guys just might be the real thing, and a big derby win from Liverpool on the strength of Fernando Torres’ scoring touch.
On the U.S. side of things, the Galaxy’s somewhat must-have game against Chicago turned into a 3-1 defeat, while Chivas USA continued to impress with a 2-1 win against Kansas City to grab possession of second place in the West. But the game of the weekend had to be the 5-4 thriller between Colorado and New York, with the Rapids grabbing a shocking 90th minute victory on the road.
We also wondered whether the delay would hurt the red-hot San Jose Earthquakes, and sure enough, a 3-2 loss to Real Salt Lake at home made those thoughts a reality.
We’ll delve into the MLS scene later, but the main event of today will center around Europe, as I was lucky enough to snag a ticket to the Emirates tonight to watch the Gunners take on FC Porto in the Champions League. So after I return, I will attempt to put up something on that. Until then, farewell.
