Wrapping up the transfer deadline

As we look at the final transfer total, this period will obviously be remembered by the Manchester City swipe of Robinho, the failure of Chelsea to secure a prized possession up front and the general amount of money that flew around.

--Dimitar Berbatov cost Manchester United 30.75 million pounds, but he should provide the stability up front that can help lessen the load on Cristiano Ronaldo and ensure that Wayne Rooney’s inconsistent performances don’t play a big factor in the EPL race.

--Robinho gives Manchester City its first big name signing, but is it realistic to believe that he and Shaun Wright-Phillips will lead City to a Top-4 finish this season? The real question here is what the takeover of City will mean for the rest of the EPL. We got a little idea today. Check this out, as it’s already being reported that the new owners plan on putting up a 135 million pound bid for Ronaldo and have a list that includes such names as Fabregas, Torres, Henry, Villa etc. This act could get old soon, as many didn’t think it could get any worse than Chelsea and some of the other megaclubs.

--It’s hard to imagine that Everton could spend a club-record 15 million dollars on a transfer and have it go rather unnoticed, but this wasn’t any ordinary transfer window. Marouane Fellaini will be joining the midfield from Standard Liege, and Louis Saha could also add some punch up front once he gets healthy.

--Arsene Wenger had a large amount of money at his disposal, but while most of the other contenders were at least trying to hit a big home run on the market, the Gunners were surprisingly quiet. Will they be regretting that stance?

--Finally, see if you can figure out the Kevin Keegan chaos at Newcastle. He’s fired, he’s not, he’s fired …. who knows?
