For anyone who caught the game tonight, Real Salt Lake put on a rather dominating performance at home to take out the Colorado Rapids 2-0 and move up to 30 points for the season. The Rapids could have moved into a tie with Salt Lake at 27 points with a win, but will instead stay in the fourth spot.
Real controlled most of the chances in the game and easily could have had a couple other goals. One close call came on a scoring header that ended up being an offside call (although no one knew for at least three minutes because the announcers completely missed it and were busy debating whether it was an own goal or not).
Fabian Espindola provided a goal in each half, the first following a sublime back heel pass from Andy Williams that hit him in stride in the box for a perfect opening on goal. The second was all Espindola, as he took a fine aerial ball from Javier Morales and coolly chipped Rapids keeper Preston Burpo, who was charging from the right side.
Burpo left something to be desired both with that play and another chip that grazed the crossbar after he had come too far off the line. In general, it was another fine home win for Real, who now sit at 6-0-5 there this season. But they still have to fix that road record, 1-8-1. Ouch.
