This post comes after an exasperating amount of time spent trying to figure out why my MLSLive.TV account wasn’t working, which stopped me from being able to watch the game I was looking forward to all weekend. But I guess I’ll live, and let’s check out what this 2-2 draw between New England and L.A. means.
First of all, the Galaxy got a result on the road against the top team in the East. On the other hand, they will wonder what could have been after taking a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute on Landon Donovan’s 2nd goal of the game and his sixteenth of the season as he continues to have a great year.
Sharlie Joseph’s first goal of the season in the 71st minute took care of the draw, but you have to believe this is a step forward for the Galaxy. Their new pickup, Eddie Lewis, also contributed the assist on Donovan’s second strike.
On the other hand, L.A. gave up a crucial goal when it had a lead and suffered again from its abysmal defense that has now given up 45 goals in 22 games. It’s obvious that they won’t be threatening for the MLS title this year if they can’t figure out how to keep the D at an acceptable level, which is all it needs to be with such a potent offense.
I’ll be checking out for the rest of the night most likely, but in other news D.C. tied New York nil-nil at home. And as we stand right now, Columbus has just scored two goals near the end of the first half to take a 2-1 lead on FC Dallas at halftime.
What do you make of the Galaxy’s result in New England? Is it a step of progress or just another reminder of the ineffective defense? Can they turn it around in time, and will they make the playoffs?
