How will Liverpool do without their main man?
Yikes. Hopefully the daily poll won’t become a regular jinx for its topic, because Liverpool sure didn’t come out well from their experience today.
First, they needed an extra-time goal from Dirk Kuyt just to get through their Champions League qualifier against Standard Liege. This wasn’t supposed to be a hard win in the second leg, and check out this recap from The Guardian’s Kevin McCarra, who obviously wasn’t impressed. This is just the latest in a series of uninspiring performances from the Reds to start this season. They’ve managed to pull them out, but like all parents tell their teenagers, that crazy lifestyle will catch up with you in the long run.
And if that weren’t enough, Steven Gerrard looks to be out for “10-15 days” and will have a groin operation according to Rafa Benitez. This will hurt both England and Liverpool, but most immediately Liverpool. With two shaky victories so far in the Premiership, they won’t have Gerrard when they face Aston Villa on Sunday. And will he really be ready when they play Manchester United on September 13?
Looking back to Robinho once again, if everything goes through he may be playing on Sunday with Chelsea against Tottenham, who are ready to make their own big signing in Roman Pavlyuchenko. If Robinho is ready for the game, Sunday would become an extremely intriguing EPL matchday. Check in later to get a list of the best upcoming matchups and why they’re so intriguing.
