Is this man set to try his luck at Old Trafford?

Good morning. You’re at work on this fine (OK, awful and sleep-deprived) Monday, and what better way to start off your week and shake off those cobwebs than reading about the rumors and rumblings of the English Premier League.

Maybe if we close our eyes and count to three, one of these big transfers will actually happen in the near future and we can move on to other things.

But alas, for now we will press on through this final week in the window as the big clubs try to squeeze out a deal that will bring that ever-so-crucial piece to help them make their run to the top of the table.

Dropping Dimitar Berbatov from the lineup on Saturday was a pretty huge statement from Tottenham. This one is happening people, at least I think. 25 million pounds is the amount this Guardian article says Manchester United is willing to offer. It also says that Tottenham values the Bulgarian at 30 million pounds. 30 million? Seriously? First question of the day. Is Berbatov worth 30 million pounds?

Crap. I’m leaving for London in two weeks, and every time I hear the word “pounds”, I mentally think how I’ll be paying twice that in dollars thanks to the beautiful exchange rate. My already pathetic bank account is going downhill fast.

Looking at Chelsea, we’ve had a little two day-lull in the courting of Robinho. With a week left in the transfer window, you have to believe they will publicly announce an end to this episode within the next three days, because if no deal can be made they need at least a day or two to find another huge signing. Or however long it takes to send a 30 million pound offer to any square inch of the world.

And here’s some Guardian news about Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill’s reaction to Arsene Wenger’s “interest” in Gareth Barry – which to anyone who has paid attention lately is real and alive. I love how managers try to play it off like they’re not improperly going after players. And I really love O’Neill’s comment in this article, saying that Wenger’s quote “must have been a bit of a slip.” Oh it was a slip alright; Wenger must have just mixed up a name, that crazy old man. You know, one of those “senior moments” John McCain has sometimes.

So as we head into the last week, which of these transfers seems most likely to go through? Berbatov now that he’s on Tottenham’s bad side? Robinho because Chelsea have an actual figure now that they can write the check for? Barry because Wenger started the inevitable transfer with a slight slip?

The discussion board, if you choose to use it, remains open and waiting.

Back with more EPL & this week in the MLS later on
