Sprinting through a light day of news. First, Robinho wants to leave Real Madrid for Chelsea, and in a shocking development, Luiz Felipe Scolari wants him …….take a minute here to recover. I know that one hit you right from the blind side, but get up off that mat. You’re gonna make it.
Moving on to the “this actually means more than that Kleenex I just blew my nose into” category, the Blackburn Rovers locked up Roque Santa Cruz for four years. I got a chance to see Santa Cruz in a couple games last season and came away impressed each time. Very dangerous with a nose for the goal, he’s a fun player to watch, and the Rovers are smart to hang on to him.
It’s also looking less likely that Berbatov will be heading to Manchester United according this Guardian article, but more on that later tonight.
Let’s jump ahead to my favorite games for Saturday, but MLS and EPL.
1) Fulham vs. Arsenal – 12:30 p.m. ….The Gunners weren’t strong on the EPL’s opening day, but Fulham took a loss to newly-promoted Hull City and looks to have another relegation fight on their hands this year. In this home game, we’ll have a good chance to see how Arsenal looks and if they need another piece before the transfer window closes. I’ll be watching this one in the morning, so we’ll get some live posts going with that.
2) Blackburn vs. Hull City, 10 a.m. ….OK, OK, I’m pulling for the little guys. Who isn’t? Blackburn will be a better test for Hull and give us an idea of how feisty these guys could be for the rest of the season after the shock of the opening day win has worn off.
3) San Jose at Chivas USA, 10:30 p.m. ….The two worst teams in the West can get right back into the race with a win in this game, so the intensity should be high. San Jose is on a roll, but can they continue it on the road?
4) Dallas at Kansas City, 8 p.m. ….Similarly, the last-place Wizards can leap up toward fourth place by winning at home. These next two weeks will likely make or break these lower-place teams’ seasons, so the effort will be there.
