Will the Robinho saga never end?
First it’s possible, then it’s not. Possible, not, possible, not. DEFINITELY NOT (but perhaps for the right price). That’s the way it keeps going, as this ESPN Soccernet article cites a comment by Robinho’s agent that the Brazilian striker could be obtained for 31.6 million pounds. This comes right after Real Madrid declared that he would not be moving. That’s a lot of money, but I could see Chelsea paying it to get the help that they need up front. Last time I checked they had a fair amount of money and absolutely no shame in spending it until their team colors turn to straight green. But dear lord, please just end the rumors. I’m begging you.
This comes on the heels of Andriy Shevchenko potentially getting ready to leave Stamford Bridge – nothing short of a house of horrors for him, his career and all Chelsea fans when he’s on the pitch. Maybe going back to Milan will revive his career, who knows? He cost Chelsea 30 million pounds in 2006, the same amount as Real Madrid’s Robinho apparent asking price….second time’s a charm?
As reported by the news today, Liverpool manager and chief exec Rick Parry have “cleared the air.” Ten bucks says new pollution infesting that air comes in the next month when the inevitable Premier League struggles ensue.
But I did love this ESPN headline for their version of the story: “Benitez and Parry declare peace in our time.” A hilarious historical reference (shame on The Guardian not coming up with it), and so fitting for Liverpool, as Neville Chamberlain’s political career proceeded to end shortly after. Hmmm, wonder if that crossed the editor’s mind…
