Annddddd, they’re coming down the homestretch!!! Real Salt Lake is on the right!!! Followed closely by Colorado, Dallas, Kansas City and D.C., with L.A. taking up the REAR!!!! NOW HERE THEY COME, WAIT, WAIT, NOW Chivas is making a strong move on the left as we near the finish line!!!!
So I may have overextended that horse-race comparison just a bit, but it’s pretty accurate for this chaotic sprint to the finish as teams vie for the coveted eight playoff spots.
It’s getting safe to count the Galaxy out now after their loss to Columbus last week to stick them in last place. Couple that with David Beckham missing this week’s matchup with Colorado thanks to yellow cards, and it’s certainly looking like those playoff T.V. ratings will be taking a hit.
And while San Jose stalled with a tie against FC Dallas, it’s Chivas USA who is the talk of the West now. With the shocking 3-0 road win against D.C. United on Saturday, they now sit in a solid second place with 39 points thanks to three straight wins following their 4-0 loss to New England on Sept. 11.
But the West is now looking OK in terms of playoff spots. As things sit, New York would get the seventh spot while Colorado and FC Dallas are tied for the eighth spot at 34 points. With Kansas City, D.C. United at 33, and Colorado/FC Dallas at 34 each, it’s going to be a mess for these final postseason berths.
On a Champions League note, the Dynamo are looking solid after claiming a 2-1 victory on Tuesday against San Francisco FC from Panama. Please, do yourself a favor and go to the MLS site and check out the highlights.
Dwayne De Rosario’s game-winner in the 88th minute borders on one of the better individual plays I’ve seen this year. First he stalked the SFFC player with the ball from behind, stole it near midfield, turned around and dribbled toward the top of the box before unleashing a curling laser for the goal. Talk about wanting it more than everyone else. What a play.
