I know it’s fairly ridiculous to wait to predict the final MLS playoff teams until five spots are already clinched and there’s only two games left in the season for most teams, but better late than never.

So let’s take a stab at what's going to go down in the last couple weeks..

We have the assured: Columbus (54 points), Chicago (43), New England (43), Houston (44) and Chivas USA (42). That gives us three spots left, with one more from the West and the two wildcards. And keep in mind that San Jose has only played 27 games because they’re making up the one with Houston on Wednesday.

With games at home against San Jose and away to a New England team they just beat, I see Kansas City getting four points from these last two games and ending up fourth in the East to pick up one of the wildcards. I also see New York winning one of their games and losing the other to end up at 39 points, just behind Kansas City.

Meanwhile in the West, Real Salt Lake loses to FC Dallas at home and earns just a point on the road at Colorado to miss the playoffs. Dallas proceeds to beat an L.A. team already out of contention to end up at 41 and grab the 3rd place slot in the West. With D.C. United failing to win both their final games against New England/Columbus, New York will grab the last spot with 39 points.

Sure, Dallas winning two on the road is a little risky, but they showed they can do it at Chicago.

That puts your final tally at Columbus, Chicago, New England, KC, NY, Houston, Chivas and FC Dallas – which would be fitting since the East has been better throughout the season. And of course, the Galaxy crash and burn again and continue to struggle despite the star power.

There’s one man’s guess…how do you think it will all play out?
