Decadence, a weekly event held on Friday nights at Club Gallery, has something for everyone.

To start with, while Decadence was founded and is run by local goth or goth-related icons, it is not a goth event. Here you'll find all kinds of people - whether dressed in latex and leather, in camos and industrial boots, in stylish high-fashion wear, in jeans, and even sometimes in track suits. A dress code isn't enforced at Decadence, and so it draws a wide array of people.

For another, the music is a peculiar mix that you'll find in few other places (except for maybe Club Hell). Spinning everything from ethereal industrial to Top 40 to eastern tribal, you'll find a variety of different folks partying up the dance floor most nights. I found myself grooving to an eastern belly-dance track last night on my venture out, a song I've never heard played in the club before. And therein lies Decadence's beauty - it's always different but always the same.

The club itself is a large affair, spanning a main room with a front bar, tables and stools, and a pool table, a huge outdoor patio, and a large dance room. The dance room is interesting enough all by itself - there are pedestals for those who want to show off what they've got, and black metal cages for display. Some people make frequent use of the cages, not just for dancing. Yup, you've guessed it - Decadence caters to the fetish crowd, too. There's usually a couple of doms on duty (both male and female), although the fetish play here is less played up than it is at Club Hell.

Overall, most people feel comfortable at Decadence. It attracts a mostly friendly and playful crowd, and the fact that it takes place on a Friday night usually ensures a halfway decent draw of people. The folks who run the night are often seen puttering about, and are easily nabbed for a drink and some discourse (in fact, Decadence hosted my very first show with my music project, which goes to show you that they don't just care about money - they care about the locals).

Whether you're new to Providence or a longtime club veteran, Decadence is a place that everyone should go at least once...but generally speaking, once a person shows up once, they tend not to leave it behind.
