Saying goodbye to Phoenix, Arizona with Maloney’s Irish Tavern
As we spend our last night here in Phoenix we all decided it was time to bring it down a notch and spend a little time relaxing the way the Irish do, and Maloney’s is the perfect place to do it.
From the moment you walk in you feel your worries melt away as you look around you at the exposed brick walls and the slate flooring. There is even a good looking fireplace with three, yes count them three flat screens over it. I like my flat screens in threes. All in all, this establishment gives you that down home feel without crossing into dive bar territory. A hard and fragile line to balance, but Maloney’s does it well.
The Facts:
- The Food: Sadly disappointed to hardly find an Irish item on the menu. When you’re in the mood for shepherd’s pie, you want shepherd’s pie. However, the sourdough cheeseburger with the melted Muenster cheese and grilled onions just about sent me into a food coma…that’s a good thing, just in case you didn’t know.
- Was the bar built on quicksand? I still will never understand why bars choose to have a sunken bar. It makes us 6’4 guys feel even bigger than we already are.
- As with any Irish tavern, St Patrick’s Day is where it’s at. A gentleman that we were sitting next to gave us the low down on St. Pattie’s at Maloney’s, and we heard it is of the hook.
- We found out soon after we left Maloney’s that it’s actually a chain. We try not to review chains as much as possible, but I’m glad we did this time. Just don’t expect it to become a habit
We're still waiting on hearing from all of you where we should head off to next. We have a full tank of gas and our ready to travel. So let us know where you think the hottest clubs, bars, and dives are in this great US of A.
