Today at the 138th British Open at Turnberry in Scotland, Tiger Woods failed to make the cut. This is only the second time in his professional career that he did not qualify to play the final two rounds in a major tournament. The other time was in 2006 at the U.S. Open, shortly after the death of his father.
After two double bogeys on the back side, and a missed must-have birdie putt on the 18th hole, which stopped 3 feet short of the hole, Tiger finished today with a disappointing 4-over 74.
After his round, he said, "It was just problem after problem."
Co-leader with Steve Marino going into the third round tomorrow, Tom Watson said, "It's as if the spirits are on my side."
Watson dazzled the crowds with a 75-foot birdie putt on 16 and a another birdie putt, a 45-footer on 18, finishing with a 70. If he wins the 2009 Open Championship, he will be the oldest player in golf history to win a major.
