Bring your furry friend to Furry Scurry 2009 on Saturday, May 2 at Washington Park.

For sixteen years the Furry Scurry has been the "can't miss" spring event for Colorado. This two-mile walk for animals is one of the largest events of its kind in the nation. The Furry Scurry raises much needed funds to help the Dumb Friends League care for homeless pets in need. Participants are encouraged to collect pledges and earn great prizes at the same time.

"The Furry Scurry is a huge celebration for animal lovers," said Bob Rohde, Dumb Friends League president. People can participate with their dogs, but they can also walk or run in honor of their cats or other favorite pets. It's a great way to make a big difference for homeless animals in our community.

"Last year alone, our organization placed more than 19,000 pets in homes and provided services for thousands more animals and people in the metro area," Rohde said. "In order for us to continue this level of commitment to the community, we're asking people to show their support by collecting pledges and participating in the Furry Scurry."

Not just for dogs, the Furry Scurry also features the "Cat Experience" where visitors can learn more about their feline friends. Following the walk, free microchips for cats are offered as part of the year long "Chip Your Cat" program. Dogs can get microchipped by Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society (DAVMS) member veterinarians at the Furry Scurry for just $45 including a lifetime registration. There's also a "flea-less market" with hundreds of vendors selling all kinds of animal related items.

The fun begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, in Denver's Washington Park. Registration for the event is $50 per person and includes a limited-edition Furry Scurry logo T-shirt. The more pledges raised, the more valuable the prizes that can be earned. The top fundraiser is named "Leader of the Pack" for the 2010 Furry Scurry. For registration information, visit ddfl.org or call (303) 751-5772, Ext. 1378.

Companies are encouraged to participate as teams. Perks include discounted registration fees and team photos at the event. For information on forming Furry Scurry teams, call (303) 751-5772, Ext. 7082.

Presenting sponsors include: Hill's Science Diet, King Soopers, and Amica Insurance. Media sponsors include: KYGO 98.5 FM, 9News, Denver Magazine and The Denver Post.
