Designing for real women should not be that hard, not as hard as some of the contestants made it out to be anyway. The ‘real’ women who were tonight’s ‘models’ all looked like any normal woman out there who shops every day in stores around America. Thank god not all designers find it so hard to design clothes for America as otherwise there would be nothing in the stores to buy!
Some contestants complained that ‘behinds’ were too big, or their model had hips, and one design contestant I was shocked to hear say when asked to work with real women,
“It’s like asking Jesus Christ to work with Satan.”
If you cannot design for real women how are you going to make money in the real world??
Contestant Angel Chang put it perfectly,
“A talented designer can create something that’s flattering for anybody’s shape.”
However it seemed many contestants gave up as soon as the challenge began this week. There was one who from the beginning of the challenge did not moan about the situation, Reco. He proved again tonight to be a talented designer, crafting a masterfully stitched suit for a petite large busted woman. His grey waistcoat and high-waist pencil skirt had the best paneling seen on the show tonight. The sheer red blouse that at first I thought was the wrong color choice had perfect ruffling detail. Once again he managed to stitch and put together a finished look that made the model look stunning. Audience members loved it; one claimed she wanted it in every color! He listened to the customer, she wanted to hide her bust and due to his craftsmanship he did just that. Unfortunately Reco did not win this week.

Week five win went to Daniella, who at one point I thought was going to fall to the floor and give up. Her model was described as very curvy and big busted; one judge said Daniella probably had the hardest shape to work with. Daniella did good as when the model came down the runway she did look less busty. The navy coat was tailored wonderfully, it looked finished, and the details kept attention away from ‘problem’ areas. The black dress underneath had great boning detail that was subtle but shaped to the body well. One of the things that bothered me this week was the judges’ asking Daniella, as mini challenge winner, to pick a fellow contestant to be in the bottom three. It seemed not only a catty thing to do but unnecessary, surely the BRAVO TV team behind the decision would know it would cause problems and I guess that is reality television. So Daniella picked Angel, the reason being she said due to the fact her dress was poorly constructed. Even Angel admitted this week was not her best work so perhaps it was the right thing to do but if she had been sent home tonight I might have had to start a campaign!

Daniella’s coat and dress combination can now be purchased on BravoShop.com for $325.00, not bad for two pieces! Oversized snap fastenings on the coat, funky flip up collar, and a big belt give this style some attitude. The dress can be easily accessorized to fit into almost all occasions whilst slimming the female shape.
This is the second win for Daniella on TFS; perhaps she is the quiet contender to watch out for…
Apart from Reco and Daniella, the other design contestants that I personally think deserve mention are Haven and Lidia.
Haven who designed for a woman with large hips and a large behind dared not to design in black. A bold choice in the pink color was made and it worked well. She proved that not all women who are big have to wear dark colors.
Lidia who designed for a tall woman with long arms pulled it together tonight; perhaps last weeks bottom two experience scared her. She chose a lovely dusky pink silk and paired it with office grey. Interesting pin and tuck detailing gave the dress a twist; it deserved a mention by the judges at the final panel. I think her dress might be my TFS obsession for the week!
So someone had to be sent home and the judges chose Keith. They said his work was disappointing and childish. Though his fans need not worry, Keith’s designs have previously been seen on Janet Jackson, Taryn Manning, and Natasha Beddingfield. His customer base seems okay to me!
What do you think? Did Daniella choose the right person, Angel, to be in the bottom three?
Should Keith have gone home?
Who was your favorite this week?
