“You can have your fashion, but still build a wardrobe that really works for you and isn’t full of ‘throw away’ fashion” – Candice Caldwell.
Fashion and Ethics to some hardened fashion insiders might seem like a far away dream but thanks to eco-fashionistas like Candice Caldwell it is a reality and fast becoming the way forward.
Some of Caldwell’s first memories are of fashion, running around in rainbow suspenders aged four and wearing a checkered beanie in Kindergarten. After studying Fashion Marketing & Anthropology at college, she spent several years in retail strategy and branding. Working for companies such as The Retail Group, eProject.com, and Retail Bootcamp she gained the experience and decided to take the leap into making the fashion world a little more ethical. Fashion Ethic was born in 2007, supporting the mission to offer choices to Fashionably Responsible™ women who shop with a conscious.
“I was very inspired by companies like EDUN and Linda Loudermilk: lines which give equal weight to fashion, the earth, and community” says Seattle based Caldwell.
By starting online boutique Fashion Ethic, Caldwell brings stylish eco-fashion to women globally.
Three of my favorite dresses for the season available at FashionEthic.com are by NatureVsFuture, Les Fees de Bengale, and Prairie Underground.

naturevsfuture by Nina Valenti has designed an easy to wear black dress. Versatile with a removable hood that drapes beautifully at the back the dress is crafted from recycled Polartec polyester. Silk jersey feel with an ethical substance.
New York based designer Nina Valenti founded naturevsfuture in 2002 and it has fast become one of the leaders in eco-chic womenswear. In an effort to reduce waste, naturevsfuture incorporates sustainable and organic materials such as Polartec, hemp, soy, and bamboo. Designed for longevity and function, this is a label needed in every household worldwide.

Les Fees de Bengale by Camille, Elodie, and Sophie has come up with another stylish versatile piece. Worn as a dress or a jumper, this Organic Fleece “Grenade” Dress looks exquisite. Cute side pockets and the tulip skirt add a modern touch. You can see the global influence in their designs. Based in France and working closely with India the three women take inspiration from the world around them. Committed to working with India by basing their manufacturing there and taking environmental responsibility through social programs these ladies show how change can be achieved.

Prairie Underground designers Camilla and Davora have dreamt up a dress perfect for warm evenings or a hard days work; whatever you want to do this dress will make you look good doing it! The Organic “Pretty Baby” Dress has such lovely detailing you will not know where to look first. This is a dress you have in your wardrobe for years to come and never get bored of wearing! Seattle based Prairie Underground use organic and sustainable fabrics, along with low impact dyes and recycled packaging materials.
