Just for the record, this Examiner does not plan to make further updates on Nadia Suleman or her 14 children. But in passing, it certainly must be said that she may have just revealed her first sign of life having hired a lawyer with decent chess skills.
Suleman's attorney Jeff Czech filed an application to trademark the word "Octomom". The issue is sure be followed under tight scrutiny as this is no slam dunk for the mother of 14 children.
Prior to Czech's filing, there had been other filings for the same name by at least two other enterprises. Besides that legal grind there is no certainty the word "Octomom" is a name that can be trademarked to describe Nadia. This is why the filing was for a clothing line and television program. Going back a little in history to look at the template to such actions, there were products such as “trampoline”, “aspirin” and “escalator” with trademarks that had literally "lost their name".
The company Super Happy Fun Fun, Inc. filed for trademark protection on March 12, 2009 (Serial Number 77689864) for products relating to computer games, toys, action figures, puzzles and more. Suleman's filing was processed by Czech on April 10th, 2009.
The Smoking Gun website features the filing.
