After being held for months in a Suriname prison USA entertainer Trina Johnson Finn flew home to the USA. She had been held prisoner for 104 days charged with fraud in a Toni Braxton concert scam. Finn maintained her innocence throughout the whole ordeal. After his arrest a full investigation was made into the promoter Angel Ventura and his fraudulent actions. Hearings were held for weeks in the Suriname courts, which later found Trina Johnson Finn to be completely innocent. This week the courts declared Finn officially exonerated of all charges, and she was free to leave to Suriname and head back to the USA.
Her first stop on the long trip home was in Miami airport where says Finn she thought “ I’m just so excited to be home” “When I touched down in Miami I was like on my knees... like thank God!” Later she arrived at the Las Vegas airport where dozens of supporters family, and media had gathered to greet her with banner and flowers. There were hugs and tears of joy, so much that Trina broke into song with her rendition of Whitney Houston’s “ There can be miracles when you believe”. Her husband Raymond Finn who was also imprisoned for 2 weeks before his released told Channel 13 reporters “ Everyone here has had a huge part to play in making this happen.” “ It just couldn’t be done with everybody.” When asked about the future Finn says she will think twice before performing anywhere, and said she is looking forward to getting back to normal having some sleep, a cocktail and spending tine with her husband Raymond and family.
Finn’s ordeal started February 28, 2009 when promotor Angel Ventura fooled thousands of people, by presenting Finn , not the real Braxton, as the main event. Finn has consistently maintained her innocence. Unbeknownst to her Ventura had been advertising her and selling tickets to what was a contracted private “Tribute performance as the real “Toni Braxton” in concert.
She hit the stage excited to perform for the “private party” and immediately was the recipient of verbal accusations of “Phoni Toni”, and in fear of her life, as bottles where being thrown at her . Her husband quickly had her taken off stage and back to the hotel. Afterwards Finn and his wife tried to cooperate with Suriname authorities, and instead found themselves accused of fraud. All of this happened while Ventura escaped with an unknown amount of the Suriname concert attendees money. Angel Ventura was eventually apprehended in Paramaribo, Suriname on May 2, 2009. He confessed his deception toward the the public of Suriname with his concert scam and Finn’s innocence. June 9, 2009 Trina Johnson Finn was fully acquitted of all charges and released thereafter.
