Summer is upon us, and with it, there are more new releases to check out. As ever, I may have missed a name or two, but I think there will be much here to satisfy even the pickiest summer reader.
This past week saw the release of Lisa Gardner’s new thriller The Neighbor, as well as a new thriller by Dr. Michael Baden and Linda Kenney Baden entitled Skeleton Justice (and featuring a killer dubbed the Vampire). Joining them on the 22nd, is James Rollins’ latest The Doomsday Key. On the 23rd the latest two in Janet Evanoich’s Stephanie Plum series are due out: Finger Lickin’ Fifteen (#15) is on shelves this week and Fearless Fourteen, (#14) is released in paperback as well. You’ll also find, The Fixer-Upper by Mary Kay Andrews, and the new thriller by C.J. Box, Below Zero. And there’s a treat for fans of NASA, as Buzz Aldrin’s new memoir Magnificent Desolation, The Long Road Home will released this next week, June 23.

In the SF department there are some goodies come out as well: the reprint of Charles de Lint and Charles Vess’ Medicine Road was released on June 15. There’s also a new Star Wars novel coming out, by Christine Golden entitled Fate of The Jedi Omen. Speaking of movies, a reprint of the late Michael Crichton’s novel Timeline hits shelves this week, and on June 29, the movie tie-in paperback Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen by Simon Furman comes out. Speaking of media tie-ins, Charlaine Harris fans should be on the look out for the next generation version of the Sookie Stackhouse novel Living Dead in Dallas, which came out on June 3 (and supposedly they’re re-re-releasing it again in August).
Or if serious SF and Fantasy are more your style, the latest Jenna Rhodes novel The Dark Ferryman and also a reprint release of Elizabeth Bear’s historical Fantasy Ink and Steel was released on June 2; and on June 9 I failed to mention The Ghosts of Blood and Innocence by Storm Constantine. (bad me) The new Brandon Sanderson novel Warbreaker will be coming out on the 16th;. Meanwhile the Dan Simmons’ classic, Fall of Hyperion was released on CD on June 15th, so … that will give SF fans something to listen to while traveling to those vacation destinations. Last but not least: The Sword-edged Blonde by Alex Bledsoe will be released in paperback on the 30th and joining him is Daniel Abraham’s An Autumn War.

For those that love YA novels, there’s a couple of note for you too: Code of Clans, the latest in the Warriors series by Erin Hunter came out on June 9 as did Don’t Judge A Girl by Her Cover by Ally Carter; Magykal Papers, a new Septimus Heap novel by Angie Sage is coming out on June 23, while the next week sees Killer (a new Pretty Little Liars novel) by Sara Shepard, on June 30th.
For lovers of Romance, we also have a couple for you. Emma Holly released a new one, Kissing Midnight, on June 2nd (my apologies for missing it); A Rogue of One’s Own the next in the Malory Anderson Family Saga by Johanna Lindsey was released in hardcover on June 16; while the final week of the month sees Christine Feehan’s latest Drake Sisters novel, Hidden Currents, released; Debbie Macomber reprinted/combined title Midnight Suns 2: Daddy’s Little Helper/Because of the Baby, as well as a new mass market paperback of Kill for Me by Romantic Suspense author Karen Rose, all of which are due out the 30th.
The 29th sees another batch of goodies hitting the shelves: James Patterson’s Swimsuit; also, Return to Sullivan’s Island by Dorothea Benton Frank, and A Plague of Secrets by John Lescroart, along with a new Ridley Pearson thriller Killer Summer, and The Apostle by Brad Thor.
And for the miscellaneous pile, a memoir by Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert, entitled Prairie Tale was released on June 9; and finally, a couple new and upcoming miscellaneous titles include A Short History of Women a new novel by acclaimed author Kate Walbert was released on the 16th, as was Commencement, the debut novel by J. Courtney Sullivan.
Phew! So as you can see, we’ve got another busy week or so ahead of us, fellow readers; so grab that sunscreen and the reading shades and have fun!
