Barbara Bova, wife of award-winning Science Fiction author Ben Bova, and respected literary agent, passed away last month after a long bout with cancer. A longtime resident of South Florida, she had been involved with the Science fiction and Fantasy community since her marriage to Ben in the 1970s, and was a frequent guest at many Florida’s SF/F conventions such as OASIS and Necronomicon. Among other things, she was an author herself, a newspaper columnist, and was well-known in the industry as one of the top literary agents, ushering the careers of such notables as Orson Scott Card, husband Ben, and others, and to be sure, she was included as first choice on many an aspiring author’s “to query” lists, yours truly's included.
Passing far too soon, Mrs. Bova will be sorely missed, and our condolences and well-wishes (though belated) go out to Mr. Bova, their friends and family.
FYI the respected Science fiction magazine Locus is planning a special tribute to Mrs. Bova in the November issue.
