Worthy dog cause of the day: heartworm prevention and treatment

Heartworms are one of the biggest killers of dogs. They are also incredibly easy to prevent. Nevertheless, some dogs end up with this terrible infection.
The good news is, heartworms can be killed and these dogs can lead normal lives. The bad news is that it's prohibatively expensive to save them.
Here is one organization that is doing their very best to save these poor animals. And for a non-profit, you can imagine how much of a burden that must be. But despite that, they're still willing to try, so I'm willing to cheer them on.

(On a personal note, I have a dog who was heartworm positive. And I can tell you that I have never encountered a sweeter creature in my life. And yet without anyone to care for him, I would never have had the chance to have him join my family.)
