Every American should practice being prepared for potential disasters such as hurricanes and forest fires, as well as the possibilities of pandemic influenza." The Safe America Foundation is joining with corporate partners, community leaders and government agencies to be sure every American can practice being prepared. "9/11 Drill Down for Safety" is a national campaign which consists of a series of drills that teaches businesses and families how to use social media and texting to communicate and best respond to emergency situations.
The U.S. Medical Reserve Corps has partnered with Safe America and has several workshops around the country to train individuals and help ensure the safety and health of citizens and their families, particularly seniors and their caregivers, people with special health care needs, and providing for pets in emergencies.
The drills that will be conducted on and around September 11th will test how populations with special needs can be evacuated, determine the most effective way to communicate to high school and colleges students through text messages and look at how to shelter people in a business location. It could save a lot of lives one day.
"9/11 Drill Down for Safety" is supported by FEMA, Motorola, UPS, Office Depot, Roche and others, and encourages communications planning in the event of an emergency. Safe America wants citizens to plan how they would use social media and sign up on line to pledge to drill – rehearse using texting, social media and other communications efforts.
