When my husband and I had our daughter, having a parent at home was never a consideration. His career was just beginning, I made more money, and we were able to adjust our schedules to minimize the time our daughter spent at her sitter's.

When we found out two years later that we were expecting twins, our days were marked by calculations nervously scribbled on random bits of paper. The cost of full-time daycare for three children, including two infants, was equal to my take-home pay, and greater than my husband's.

MSN Money has developed a calculator to help you weigh the financial risks and benefits to having two workers in your family. For some people, love of their work -- whether that work is in an office or at home tending to family -- makes the decision easy. But for those of us on the fence, MSN's calculator is worth a look.
