Box art for Halo 3: ODST (360).

Because it can be difficult to keep track of the plethora of games that are released every day, I am publishing a weekly column where I lay out the coming week's notable (and not so notable) game releases for you, so you know exactly what's coming out and when.

---

We're nearing the fourth quarter of 2009, and you know what that means: weeks upon weeks of high-profile releases that are sure to put a strain on every gamer's wallet and free time.  This week is clearly one of Microsoft's most important of the year as Bungie finally delivers the long-awaited (at least to series fans) Halo 3: ODST, which is sure to be lighting up 360s all over the nation later today.  But the week isn't entirely won by Halo fans, as Namco is also gracing PS3 owners with Katamari Forever, a brand-spanking-new, high-definition installment of the whacked-out franchise that just may breathe some new life into the series. The PSP also gets a nice little nugget of goodness in the updated re-release of the original Persona. On the other hand, it's a pretty quiet week for Nintendo hardware, with the Wii's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up pretty much being the biggest release of the week... if you're into watered-down clones of Smash Bros., that is. (Trust me, saying that breaks my heart -- as a huge TMNT fan, I wanted it to be great. Alas, after I played it at E3 and Comic-Con, I knew it wasn't meant to be.)  Finally, PS3-owning Fallout 3 fans who have been waiting for their Broken Steel fix will finally get it this Thursday -- no small thing, considering they've had to wait patiently while Xbox 360 owners have been playing it for months.  As for me?  As much as I'd like to pick up Katamari Forever, money needs to be saved, so I'm holding off for next week's release of Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days...

All release dates are subject to last-minute changes, and are gathered by way of GameFAQs, a site that I have long found to be a reliable source for release dates (among other things).

Also keep in mind that all listed release dates are for a game's ship date; games are not usually available on store shelves until the following day (although there are rare exceptions where the game is available on the same day).
