Billy Rice, 36, called the police to report that his landlord had stolen his marijuana. An unusual call, to be sure, as theft reports go, but Rice possesses a certificate confirming his eligibility in the Colorado Medical Marijuana database, meaning he is legally allowed to possess medical marijuana.

Rice’s landlord, Yvette Poirier, 48, allegedly stole the marijuana from Rice, who is renting a room in her Boulder mobile home. Rice had difficulties paying his rent in the past, and at one point he supplemented a cash payment with a bag of marijuana. Recently, Rice had fallen behind in rent payments again, and the two were arguing when Poirier reached into Rice’s coat pocket and took his medical marijuana, refusing to return it. Poirier was arrested for robbery of a controlled substance, though she denies any drug use. The police have not yet found the marijuana in question.
