As part of an effort to explore how our current economy is “painting the face” if you will, of our nation, here are a few thoughts and observations from my genre.

The styling/beauty business may flow with the change, however it's not as subject to the volatile effects as other areas of the business world. People still get their hair cut, colored and buy cosmetics, though the frequency and “need vs. want purchasing” may shift.

Here are some stylish suggestions on how to stretch your dollar, but still get the services that help you look and feel your best!

If you need to cut spending corners with your hair care, try stretching your haircuts from every 6-8 weeks, to every 10-12. This will require a bit more work, patience and creative styling on your part for that last few weeks. However, trying to repair hair that has been badly cut or colored can end up being more costly than a good professional provides. Coupled with the personal stress and strife of dealing with a hair situation gone bad, this budget tip is one to consider.

For cosmetics, respecting your budget can be as simple as working with and sticking to buying a few basic colors, then being creative. You can create eyeshadow colors by mixing a few different shades, different ways; with the same idea applying to lipstick colors. Again, more work and patience on your part, however, you can still enjoy the products you love and watch what you spend.

During the next few weeks, I’ll be providing more tips on this topic. If anyone has questions to ask, feel free to email them to me at stylestudion@gmail.com or post them in “Comments” on this “Beauty Tips” page. I may not be able to answer them all, however I’ll do my best to incorporate answers into my columns on the subject.

Best wishes for beauty and your budget!
