At the corner of Broadway with 6tth Street, right next-door from the “Bismarck Tavern” is “Josie’s Corner”. The store has the charm of old Downtown and the remodeling of the place was done with a certain care, to preserve the past. A couple of steps on the squeaky wood floors and a look into the tin ceiling transport you back in time. There are only a handful of tables, maintaining the grandma store atmosphere. In the summer, you can take a seat at one of the tables offered outdoor, on the sidewalk in the shadow of the Cathedral that’s not too far.
Josie’s caters to the lunch crowd and offers a variety of soups, sandwiches and homemade muffins, cookies, granola bars and other coffeehouse goods. There are also espressos, mochas and a wide assortment of teas. Take out is always a possibility. I like the clean, rectangular box that comes with the lunch on the go. They never forget to put in there napkins and everything else you need: spoon, fork, etc. Sometime you get a plastic bag with fresh vegetables such as celery sticks and baby carrots.
Today I tried the soup and half-sandwich combo. This one did not come with the surprise fresh vegetables bag. I got the “Pot Pie Turkey” soup that was creamy and delicious. The half of sandwich came on rye bread and it had ham and mayo with a fresh leaf of lettuce.
If you happen to venture in Downtown around the lunch hour, do not forget to visit Josie’s Corner at 524 N. Broadway in Fargo.
