You could walk by the Old Town Shops in historic downtown Flagstaff five times before noticing its even there. The retail building was constructed in 1962 and now houses several independently owned boutiques and shops. Three of these - p.j. chilcottage, Black Hound Gallerie and Basement Marketplace - boast some of the most unique inventory in the city. p.j. chilcottage features products for bath, body and home with an especially fun children's section decked out with Lubies toys, Robeez clothing and accessories, and kid-friendly books like Tickle Monster by Josie Bissett. The sale section is fairly stocked with t-shirts and other gift items that can be found at up to 50 percent off - highlights include Root Candles for a little under $7. No doubt the center of all the action at p.j. chilcottage is the store's soap display which flaunts eye-catching, designer-style creations by Primal Elements for $.99 an ounce.

Black Hound Gallerie is a more alternative shop with everything from retro lunch tins (pictured right) to hypercolor t-shirts and stylish dresses, tops and jewelry. The majority of dresses - everything from hippie-chic to flirty night-out designs - go for under $40 and many for less than $30. Trendy earrings, necklaces and other accessories are listed in the $10 range and there's even a sale stand that shells out quirky items for $.50. A separate sale section dedicated to larger items has stock listed for $10 and less. Accessories and eccentric knicknacks like wall posters and tongue-in-cheek magnets are unisex but the store's clothing items definitely cater to women. Guys can find some cheeky t-shirts, though.

Some of the items at Basement Marketplace may be above the budget-friendly price point but its well worth the splurge with labels like Monteau, trinity, and Althea. Not to worry, though, the store's sale section is stocked with dresses, pants, tops and more for less than $25. And Basement Marketplace's mix-n-match concept allows you to pick from basic-but-trendy separates for a steal - two items for $15, three for $20 or four for $25. The store's aura is like a less-exclusive Urban Outfitters and just in case you start to get light-headed from all of the fashion mania, grab a bite at Bigfoot BBQ which is located at the back of the store. Convenience at its best!
