The fashion gods seem to be smiling on the Valley of the Sun lately. Hot off the heels of the Barneys New York grand opening at Scottsdale Fashion Square is the debut of H&M's first Arizona location just up the road at Scottsdale Quarter. The Swedish shop's high-fashion, low-priced duds have attracted shoppers across the United States and in Europe since the 1940s. The highly anticipated Valley location welcomed nearly 2,000 shoppers on opening day alone.
Nicole Christie, spokeswoman for H&M, says the city's reputation as a fashion house of the Southwest made it a natural choice for the retailer. "We believe the Southwest is a strong market with great potential," she says.
There is a possible second location on the horizon set for Fashion Square but no date has been confirmed. Though nothing is set in stone, Christie offers hope to fashion lovers: "We are continuing our expansion and definitely believe that we have the potential to open more stores in the Greater Phoenix area."
The Scottsdale Quarter location offers threads for the whole family with items like knit dresses and tunics starting at $25 for women and men's blazers for $50. Holiday shoppers can look forward to party dresses in trendy jewel tones for less than $30 and shirt/tie combos for suave little ones for approximately $15. H&M employs more than 100 designers in Sweden that work more than a year in advance to create collections for the popular retailer.
