Remembering Corey Haim at his best - Silver Bullet and Lucas

The unexpected death of actor Corey Haim (whom I met in 2008 at a horror convention) made me reminisce about my teenage years today. Regardless of his personal issues, one had to admit that in the 80's Corey Haim definitely had a following. My two favorite films of his are: Silver Bullet and Lucas.
The first film, Silver Bullet is based on the novella, The Cycle of the Werewolf by horror master Stephen King. Director Daniel Attias directed this North Carolina filmed adaptation in 1985. In it, Haim played Marty Coslaw, a wheelchair-bound adolescent who struggles to convince people in his hometown of Tarker's Mill, Maine that it is under siege by a nasty werewolf.
Eventually, Haim convinces his sister Jane (played by fellow Canadian Megan Follows) that he is not up to his usual jokes. Haim and Follows led a handsome cast that included Gary Busey (hilarious here as Uncle Red), Bill Smitrovich (Life Goes On) and Lost's Terry O'Quinn. Silver Bullet is a very hokey film, but a LOT of fun.
The following year saw the release of Lucas, which was based on a story by the author of The Omen, David Seltzer. In Seltzer's story, Haim played the title, bespectacled character who falls in love with a new girl in town, Maggie, played by Kerri Green in one magical summer.
Unfortunately for Lucas, when school starts in the fall, Maggie falls for Lucas' friend Cappie played by Charlie Sheen (also excellent here). Lucas accurately captured teen angst and first love. Haim's performance was the standout in this moving drama.
He would go on to do The Lost Boys and other 80's vehicles with Corey Feldman. For me, these two films were his standouts.
