I was reluctant to see this movie as the movie didn't seem that appealing. When I finally did see this movie, it turned out to be quite a pleasant surprise. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, as the clueless losers, go looking for the former's beloved, played by Lauren Holly who lost a suitcase full of money.
On the way, they tick off a gangster Joe Mentalino (so memorably played by Mike Starr) who is looking to kill them and take the suitcase. Pretending to be a motorist whose car breaks down, Mentalino joins them for a while in their van, which is made up to look like a dog! Unfortunately for Mentalino, he gets in way over his head and in a hilarious scene, truly learns to hate the song Momma's Gonna buy you a Mockingbird. He ultimately leaves them in a most unfortunate, but hilarious way.
Carrey and Daniels continue their trip to Aspen, Colorado where the latter apparently forgot to watch Christmas Story and gets his tongue stuck to a pole in very cold weather as Carrey tries return the suitcase and find his beloved.
This surprisingly funny and charming movie belongs to Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. The former's wild and crazy man fits this movie like a glove. Carrey pulls out all the stops and just keeps going for more. Jeff Daniels proves, surprisingly, that he is Carrey's equal and is more than just adept at performing comedy. Mike Starr, as stated earlier, almost steals this movie as the tense gangster. Another memorable scene involves Harland Williams playing a cop who thinks he is drinking beer, but isn't! Remember this saying, pills are good!
