B Is Bob is fun for kids of all ages

What does the name Bob Marley evoke? Would it be the word Legend either in by name or the CD titled that? Is it the legacy he left behind with his amazing and timeless Reggae creations? Whatever the name evokes without a doubt most people are at least somewhat familiar with the music of Jamaica’s most famous son. Even if not a fan of his music there is no doubt most people could at least name a Bob Marley song. But for the younger generation Bob Marley may not be as famous or well-known. That could change with a recent release that exposes the music of Marley to the younger generation, all thanks to the help of his son Ziggy.

B Is For Bob is a stripped down CD that takes Bob Marley songs and simplifies them for future fans aka kids. With the help of other reggae legends like Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer the songs really are ingenious. They are almost unplugged but are delightfully wonderful reinvented versions of classics like “Three Little Birds,” “Redemption Song,” and “One Love/People Get Ready” Some songs like “Satisfy My Soul,” “Could You Be Loved” and a few others are only slightly tinkered with, if touched at all. But the new backing tracks and slight changes to some of the originals, made by Ziggy Marley, add a fresh and new approach to these already amazing and timeless classics. Perhaps the best track is the more mellow, cool new of “Stir It Up” The new version of “Jammin” really highlights the powerful backing vocals of people like Bunny Wailer. Ziggy who is the eldest of Bob’s sons has crafted a pretty impressive career of his own but his past two CDs including this one are more geared to children. Plus who would know his father’s music better then someone who not only grew up around it but also has probably been the son that stuck closest to his father’s reggae roots. But B Is For Bob is both fun for young and old and while he reinvents 8 songs, as previously mentioned aside from some mild censorship 4 tunes remain exactly the same. But for those who appreciate reggae and also love good music this CD is a must have.

This project can also expose children everywhere to the brilliance that is Bob Marley and show kids that shows like: The Wiggles, Imagination Movers and Backyardigans aren’t the only way to learn all about the power of music. Plus this is definitely a much better option to sometimes forced kids shows like Hip Hop Harry which is a new attempt at trying to show the coolness of music to the toddler set. CDs like this could also give kids and parents alternatives to other CD projects too like: Kids Bop. While shows have been created to try and expose kids to more of a rock scene like the trippy show, Yo Gabba Gabba. But reggae music still seems to be untouched terrain. B Is For Bob offers a chance for parents to play music for their kids that has already been proven to be stellar. That could be music to the ears of both adults as well as the kids. This idea could actually lead to many more CDs that aren’t as sanitized or changed like the aforementioned Kids Bop CDs. B Is For Bob could be the first of many CDs that proves that just because music is brought down to the level of the kids, that it doesn’t need to lose the original message and power of the original songs. But don’t necessarily shy away from this CD if there is no kid in your home. It could always be added to a music fan’s not so guilty pleasure collection. But regardless why it is bought this would be a great addition to any CD collection. It could possibly teach a few adults themselves why Bob Marley will live on forever as one of the most gifted poets of any genre of music and it is also good fun for Rastafarians of all ages and sizes too.
