It's great that you're getting out there in the world of internet dating, and if you're thinking that you can do it without posting a photo, you're smokin' something. People aren't going to browse profiles without photos, so don't be naive and assume that they are going to fall in love with your personality first. It might sound harsh, but people want to know if they would be attracted to you before they invest their valuable time. You do it, too...
That having been said, make sure you don't make any of the worst profile photo mistakes listed below:
Photo of your and your car
1. Unless you want to look like a d bag, don't post a photo of yourself with your expensive car, or really anything expensive for that matter. Men, this one is mainly for you, although it applies to women, too.

The ex file photo
2. Great picture of you and your ex? Leave it in the ex files. Don't white their face out (or worse, scratch their face out with a photoshop black pen). You'll look like you're revenge dating, and not remotely over them. Either crop them out completely, or find a different photo.
my pecs are the bomb!
3. Think your pecs are awesome? That's great. Congrats. However, if you have a picture of yourself all oiled up in your bathroom taking a picture of yourself in the mirror (you know who you are) you're going to look like a tool.
Look, ma! It's me and George Clooney!
4. Picture of you with a celebrity? Keep it to yourself. You're not going to impress anyone, you're just going to look like you're standing next to a famous person. Odds are also good that you'll end up in the tool bin for this one, too.
I can't really tell...but he looks like he might be cute...maybe
5. Don't post a photo of yourself that looks like it was taken from space. You might think you look great from fifty miles away, but it's not going to help someone who has never seen you. Same goes for group shots of you and all of your buddies at bars and the like. If you have to squint to see your face, or worse, can't even find yourself in the photo, don't bother scanning it in. This also applies if the photo was taken in really bad lighting or if the photo is overexposed so it looks like you have no features...if it doesn't look like you, don't put it in your profile.
I look so funny when I cross-dress...or when I wear costumes
6. If you have some great pictures of you in costumes and you think they're hilarious, put them on facebook, not a dating site. Although the time you and all of your frat brothers dressed as women was super funny to you, you're probably just going to look like an idiot in your online profile photos.
You want your personality to show through in your photos, but you also want to remember that less is more in most of these cases. A couple of simple shots of your face, taken in decent lighting without anything too funky or strange is your best bet.
