Tyner, Tyner, burning bright: McCoy Tyner's still going strong.

I was fully aware that pianist McCoy Tyner, 70, was alive and well when I wrote a post last month about John Coltrane's legendary quartet. In fact, as reviews editor at Jazziz magazine, I had even assigned a review of his excellent new recording Guitars a few months ago. But somehow, that didn't stop me from stating that he had passed away in that post, mostly because I just wasn't paying attention. Of course, I had intended to say that the album Crescent was a favorite of the quartet's bassist, Jimmy Garrison (who passed away in 1976), as evidenced in a quote from his widow in Ashley Kahn's book, A Love Supreme. But, when my fingers typed it out, it came out as McCoy Tyner. Anyway, no need for alarm, but by all means, check out Tyner's latest disc, one of his best in recent years.
